I like Bohol but love Palawan (Puerto Princesa). I usually do all the planning when we go on vacations like this. I do my research on the Internet and just contact places, hotels we are to stay in, reading reviews from TripAdvisor.com . I then try to see if I can rent a car and driver for any city tours needed as well as other trips that we might take on vacation. I usually don't go for vacation packages as they seem prohibitive for me in terms of schedule. Plus, with our experience, one usually encounters changes to itineraries in which you can adapt to quickly if not on a group tour or package.

Don't worry about your kids if they're less than 10. Xianelle started to travel with us when she was 4. You may read our Palawan Trip on 2008 (<a href="http://www.lifeonthespot.com/page/2?s=palawan" title="Palawan archive" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.lifeonthespot.com/page/2?s=palawan</a>) where Xiane snorkeled with me in 15 ft. deep waters! In fact, she's been to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Tokyo and she's only 8!

Can you recommend a good local travel agency for this Bohol tour? Or did you just get there by yourselves?

I wanted to tour the Philippines with my foreign hubby, and our kids were already pre-teens now, so I think traveling won't be a problem with them. But I'm bonkers when it comes to adventuring.

Thank you!

@Donovan, what I can suggest is for you to gauge how much you would be saving after all the extra spending you'll have after a month. One can reasonably live well on a 50-70QR food budget per day. If you cook at home, even cheaper. But if you're expecting to be eating in an american restaurant most of the time, a meal would already cost you 50QR+. Then consider paying for mobile and internet too. Again, depends on how much you use your mobile but that easily could be 50QR a month minimum. Internet at home is 200QR, and around 250QR with a mozaic TV connection. You also have to consider transpo if not provided.

Then decide if whatever is left of your salary is more than what you can save in your country.
