“Cans and bottles of 355ml of Pepsi, 7 Up, Mirinda, Mountain Dew, Shani and Evervess Club Soda are already available in the local market for QR1.50. Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite are expected to follow suit from today.”

Who would ever think that after more than10 years of soda being sold for a rial that they are now going to raise their prices by 50%? 1.50 for a can of soda? A can of soda is now more expensive to produce than a liter of gas and almost costs half as much. A liter of Super is 80 Halalas while Premium is being sold for 70 Halalas.

Another implication? Well, remember those ladies on the cash registers giving you candies for change? They now have more candies to give you if you buy a can. Better if you buy 2 instead of one, at least if rounds of the amount than getting candies that you might add to the stockpile you keep at home. Hmmm, isn’t this a connivance by Pepsi and Coca Cola and shops for consumers to just 2 cans instead of 1?

Only in the Middle East.
