Xianelle’s 7th Birthday Party at Cafe Ceramique

Xianelle celebrated her 7th Birthday at Cafe Ceramique last Friday (June 4). It’s her first time to have a party in Qatar since we came here 5 years ago so she was really excited about it. Her actual birthday is on June 17 but we decided to celebrate it earlier since some of her friends are bound to go on vacation even before school ends. The party started at 3:30 with 50 of her friends coming; some from her previous school Doha Montessori, some classmates and castmates from” Oliver!” and some of our personal friends too. This is the cover of Xiane’s Birthday invitation. The Belle dress was bought in Hong Kong Disneyland as a present from her Lolo and Mamita. She would be wearing this on her birthday party as the party is themed. All kids invited were requested to show up with their costumes. We’re expecting and confirmed 190 guests with 133 adults and 57 kids. We’ve been busy preparing for the party and hopefully, everything would be ok come June 16 (Saturday).

Birthday Season

How many of the people we know were born during this month? I’ve always wondered why a lot of people celebrate their birthdays in September. In Christian’s family alone, 3 of them have their birthdays this month. His sister celebrated her birthday on the 22^nd, then Christian on the 28^th and his mom on the 29^th. An uncle of mine had his birthday today. Just this weekend we attended 2 birthday parties. Our friends had to go to one birthday party after the other almost all the weeks of September. The list could go on and on, and it makes me wonder why. I have two thoughts. First, people born in September were conceived in the month of December, which is a cold month for the most part of the world, thus being conducive for intimacy and you know what I mean. Second, as the song goes, “give love on Christmas day….” I guess some people get a bit carried away and take it literally. Well, I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing. It’s just something that I’ve often thought about and I don’t know if anyone is as curious as I am.

I’m Turning 30!

I’m turning 30 on September 28! Yay. 30 years of existence, of being. That’s a huge number. 30. It’s not like when I turned 20 where my recollections were of me being in high school and getting past my first years in college. My outlook for the next 10 years was of getting past college, landing myself a job, build a house, get married and have a kid. It felt like I was young, naïve yet ready to take on everything that was ahead of me. That was 10 years ago. Now, turning 30, my recollections are filled with me working on the other side of the planet, getting married, and having a kid. 10 years just seem to fly fast though not to say that I’m not happy or content with what I’ve accomplished and what has happened to my life the last decade. It’s actually the opposite. Life has been pretty good to me and I’ve accomplished more than what I was hoping for when I was 20. I got a great job which pays well enough for me to save and share my blessing with my family. I got married to the person I love and can’t imagine my life without. God has blessed us with a smart daughter who never stops talking. I still haven’t been able to build that dream house but could have if I wanted to. Otherwise, life’s been great!

Mavis has been “bugging” me with what I want her to cook for my birthday party. First, I’m not really into parties on my birthday. I can’t even remember the last time I had a party on my birthday. Second, I don’t want to trouble her or myself into preparing, cooking and cleaning up, especially on my birthday. I’d rather go out, have a quiet dinner with her and Xiane. As for a birthday present? Hmmm…let me see my list…

Where have we been?

Well, since Mavis and Xiane arrived, we’ve been quite busy especially that it’s going to be Xiane’s 3rd birthday tomorrow. We’ve been preparing a bit since we’re going to invite some friends over for dinner. Mavis and I have been staying up late and going to sleep at 1 AM the past couple of nights. We were supposed to have the food catered but then last week, Mavis decided that it was better for her to cook so that she has more control on the taste of the food and not leave it to the chef who was to cater for the dinner. Xiane’s been excited about her birthday too. We already bought her a LeapPad Learning book which she has already tried (just to make sure it was working correctly before wrapping it and losing the 7 day warranty). She already has a dress which she’ll wear tomorrow plus a crown and a scepter to boot. Hopefully, everything would turn out ok tomorrow.
