OWFs are up in arms against Malu Fernandez and her article which talks about her experience riding economy in Dubai (UAE) with a plane full of OFW’s. The derogatory remarks she made has tarnished her reputation will forever be cursed by Filipinos around the world. There is no excuse for what she wrote as it is not witty nor was it humorous. As of this writing, Malu Fernandez has resigned from her post. I would have hoped that they sacked her earlier instead of letting her resign. It’s bad enough that they (The Editors) let this kind of article be published.

Beware of Crocs

23 Aug 2007

accident2.jpgOver the last couple of years, Crocs shoes have exploded as one of the biggest footwear trends since UGG boots. But over the last couple of months, the rubber clogs have come under some scrutiny due to escalator accidents involving children wearing the beloved colorful shoes.

While Crocs are popular enough to be identified by name after such an accident occurs, it’s important to note that other shoes can also pose a risk to riders.

Three people were killed and several others injured when a trailer fully loaded with sand hit the barricade of a bridge and fell down, triggering a huge fire that engulfed several vehicles in Dammam on Thursday.

The Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday issued a decree (Law No.19\2007) on traffic laws. Notable among them are the following:

  • Qatar Visitors can now make use of their local driver’s license provided they get an approval from the traffic department, 15 days from their arrival in Doha.
  • A driver detected not holding a driver’s license would serve jail time of not less than 1 week and no more than 3 years and/or would get a fine between 20,000-50,000

A Filipino seaman, Gerse Garaldoy Segovia, working in Ras Laffan died 3 weeks ago from a tragic accident. His body has now been repatriated to the Philippines.
It was actually a freak accident that ended his life as the 2 inch thick anchor rope of his ship suddenly snapped. The rope hit his face with the force crushing part of his head. He died on the spot. Luckily for the other members of the crew standing beside him when the accident happened, they were left unhurt.
