We’re Off to Bangkok

1 Jul 2010And we’re off! Almost. We’re at the Qatar Airways Oryx Lounge (courtesy of Mashreq Bank) waiting for our flight at 9 PM. We’re flying to Bangkok and hopefully, we’ll touch ground at 7:45 AM (BKK Time) tomorrow. We’d be staying at Pullman Kingpower again but we’d stay for the next 3 days in their Executive Room with access to the Lounge and breakfast. My parents would be flying from the Philippines on the 3rd and we’d move to their Superior Rooms till the 8th.

Mavis and I went to Bangkok last year and left Xiane with her grandparents. We decided to come back to do some shopping and take Xiane and my parent around Bangkok. I settled with a fairly simple itenerary as honestly, there’s nothing much to really see in Bangkok itself. I mean, you can go explore other cities and their beaches but for Bangkok, it’s either you’re there for shopping, massage and for girls/ladyboys. Bangkok is probably the cheapest country we’ve been to in terms of the cost of hotel stays and shopping for clothes. No, it’s not your designer clothes shopping which is cheap but more on the locally made shirts, polo shirts, blouses and dresses which you usually find on catalogues in Japan and comparable to the designs of other high end designers. Food is also cheap. A typical meal would probably cost you between 5-8 QR. And that’s tasty food at that, whether it’s in hole-in-a-wall shop, carts and hawker streets, or hotel restaurants. It’s where we’ve tasted the best grilled pork and we accidently discovered it right behind Pullman Kingpower. Our late nights last year were spent eating that yummy piece of meat!
Going back to the itenerary, as I said, it’s simple. It’s basically shop, eat, sleep, swim, shop, see the elephants, eat, see Siam Niramit, sleep, shop, probably accompany my parents to the Grand Palace, and swim, eat and sleep some more! Mavis and I discussed not bringing in too much luggage as our flight from Bangkok to the Philippines allows each of us only 15k. We sent “Balikbayan” boxes containing “pasalubong” (gift items) for parents and siblings last month which we hope would arrive when we land in the Philippines next week (sea Cargo takes a least a month). Sadly though, we still had to make adjustments in the we hours of the morning (3:00 AM) today to remove whatever can help us bring down our 65kg luggage. I had to buy 10kg additional excess baggage allowance thorugh Cebu Pacific Air’s website this morning just to be on the safe side. Hopefully, my parents and my sister would pack light and we can make use of their 15kg allowance and the 7kg allowed for hand carries.
Speaking of my sister, I actually have two and I’ve booked flights for our eldest, along with her husband Den and daughter Yiyi. Tickets we’re booked last October 2009. Thing is, she got pregant and would be on her 7 month this July which makes it difficult to travel. So their whole family would be staying back home.
Anyway, it’s almost 8:00 PM so I have to stop this for now and hopefully, I’d have time to update you guys of our espacapes in Bangkok. Till then!
