iPhone 4 in Qatar through Qatar Vodafone

Hmmm…Qatar Vodafone has announced that they’ll be bringing in iPhone 4 in Qatar.

Vodafone Qatar will launch the iPhone 4, the thinnest smartphone in the world with the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, in Qatar in the coming months. Information on pricing and points of sale will be available in due course, a Vodafone Qatar spokesperson said. The iPhone 4 will feature ‘FaceTime’ video conferencing that will use Wi-Fi only to perform. The iPhone 4 will also feature Apple’s A4 microprocessor, a 5 megapixel camera featuring HD video-recording, a front facing camera for FaceTime video conferencing.

Some questions though. Would these units be officially “unlocked iPhone 4“? How much would they cost? With them bringing in the iPhone 3Gs, it costs about $200 more than buying an officially unlocked iPhone in Hong Kong. Does this also mean that they’ll be bringing down the price of their iPhone 3Gs? The iPhone 3Gs 16GB is now selling for 2,999QR while the 32GB sells for 3,499QR.

When are they bringing the iPhone 4? Apple hasn’t announced release of the iPhone 4 in Qatar nor in other countries where they should be selling unlocked iPhones. Is this just a preemptive announcement from Vodafone?

I guess that would be probably locked with Vodafone. Anyways I just received my factory unlocked iPhone 4 from an online portal in Dubai. They do shipping to Qatar also. So now I am free to use any carrier, a smart move 😉

No Ali they will NOT be locked. It is illegal to lock devices in Qatar.

Vodafone Qatar is the ONLY official seller of the iPhone in Qatar. Buying it from anywhere else is grey market and the warranty is not supported.

Vodafone Qatar will sell the iPhone 4 at a competitive price that it won’t even be worth importing it unless you’re getting it extra cheap and even then it’s considered a grey market device.

Kei, so would Vodaofone accept support for any iPhones since they are now “Officially” the seller of iPhone in Qatar? How much are they selling the 16gb and the 32gb?

I don’t think you’ll be able to buy the iPhone at the Doha Airport Terminal as I haven’t seen any Vodafone Retailer there.
