Vodafone is launching BlackBerry service in Qatar today, but limited to 1,000 customers, who will be able to use it for free until May 31.

Customers interested in using Vodafone’s BlackBerry service should register at www.vodafone.com.qa/blackberry before March 7. But they must have an active Freedom account with Vodafone, as well as their own BlackBerry smartphone.

Once all the registrations have been completed, Vodafone will randomly select 1,000 customers for the BlackBerry service.

BlackBerry services allow customers to manage up to 10 email accounts on their mobile phone, Internet browsing and use ‘Instant Messenger’.

Customers can opt out of the exclusive launch offer any time by calling Vodafone Customer Care (111) as well as post their comments on the service provider’s Facebook Group. When the launch promotion ends on May 31, the first 1,000 customers will have the option of retaining their BlackBerry service by paying QR125 a month.

Vodafone chief marketing officer Michael Portz said, “Our customers have been eagerly anticipating the day when they will be able to use their BlackBerry smartphones on Vodafone Qatar’s network.  We are pleased to take the first step towards making it a reality.”

Markus Bikker, Vodafone’s product manager (BlackBerry service) said, “Giving 1,000 customers a chance to be the first to enjoy BlackBerry service is our way of thanking them for supporting Vodafone.”
Vodafone CEO Grahame Maher said, “Vodafone Qatar is a Qatari company with a global brand and global resources. By bringing global innovation and best practices we are delivering on our commitment to make a world of difference for everyone in Qatar.”
