Of Phones, PDA and the iPhone

I did buy myself a new cheap phone just for Vodafone. For those who know me well, I’m not really into phones. I’m not someone who changes and replaces their phones every quarter nor do I buy the latest and most expensive phone. I’m a simple and non-discerning man when it comes to phones. As long as I can call and people can call me, then I’m set. The ability to store probably 200 contacts would be good too. But that’s it. Heck, I am even to lazy to really use the short messaging capability of phones. I’d rather talk than waste my time fumbling with the key presses to get the words right. Nor am I well versed with Txt speak. I dnt know hw 2 rily shortn wrds as i lwys fil that d prsn rciving it wld not undrstnd n i end up coling

anyway. See? It takes me more time thinking of how to shorten words plus add to the fact that i punch in at about 1 letter per 10 seconds on a phone.

I had one of those Sony Clio PDA which Mavis and I bought in Hong Kong in 2002 (or 2003), I think. I loved that thing! Before that, I’d have a bunch of post-it notes on my wallet to keep track of my phone numbers. With the Sony Clio, I was able to keep my schedules, diary, word documents and stuff. The only thing missing was the phone capability itself and the downside was it was a bit bulky. Eventually, I got myself a mobile. Yup. I think I only had my own mobile phone after 2003. And it was one of those base models. I ended up storing my Clio and used the phonebook of my mobile. When I intended to replace it with another phone on 2006, Mavis’ teen sister didn’t even want to do anything with it as it was already 2 years old and as we all know, people usually consider your phone old if it was bought 3 months ago. Anyway, I got to pass it off to someone and bought a Nokia 1200. I’m not sure of the model but it was the lowest base model; monochrome screen, no Mp3 ringtone, basic contacts. After 3 years, I’m still using it and have no real plans of changing it yet. I did get myself another phone for my Vodafone Sim card but feel that this Nokia is better than the Sony Ericsson phone I got. Well, again, I bought a cheap QR200 phone from Sony but it has a camera and a colored screen. At the moment, that phone is at home and not even used at all (another post regarding Vodaofne on the way!).

I don’t myself buying another phone at the moment. I’m not too sure how useful it is for me to have a 3G/Wi-fi-enabled phone as I don’t see myself using it much. I just don’t have time to tinker with this stuff at the moment. I’m just partially interested even with the iPhone. Hopefully, by the time Vodafone launches it, I’d be sold to the idea of having one. But at the moment, I’ll stick with my old trusty Nokia 1200.
