Housewarming and Birthday Party
A friend of ours hosted a housewarming cum birthday party last night. She recently moved to a new flat and has finally had the chance to invite friends over for a get-together. Consequently, they’ve decided to include the birthday of friend in the celebration whose birthday is not until the 3rd week of September.
At first my husband didn’t want to come and was just supposed to drive me and Xianelle to the place. He simply isn’t a party guy plus the fact that he thought that it was going to be an all-girl party. The original plan was that he’d stay at LandMark after he drops us off and just fetch us again when were ready to go home. But I was finally able to convince him after telling him that there will be guys at the party. When we got to the party though, it was definitely dominated by girls as there were only 5 guys including my husband and a little boy out of 20-25 people.
There was a lot of food prepared by the birthday girls herself just yesterday morning. We loved everything most especially the sweet n’sour fish and the braised beef. There were a lot of sweets too for those who have a sweet tooth. Needless to say, everyone was full to the brim.
As “customary” (well now it is) in Filipino parties, there was videoke. So amidst the party, people eating and talking, there’s the “Magic Sing” keeping the singing enthusiasts busy. Although we could barely hear each other, the videoke has really become an integral part of parties, Filipino-style. My very own daughter never missed her chance to take part in the singing. She had a go with the mic and sang about 3 songs. All the adults there were entertained by her singing but they were more surprised to find out that she can read. She was reading the lyrics of the song from the TV screen and they just couldn’t believe that she can read that well already. They kept asking me how old she was and were so amazed at her reading skills. Truly, it was a happy and proud moment for me and my husband. We were just so delighted at how people appreciate our daughter. She had a blast as she also got to play with the other kid (a boy) who was there.
But of course we enjoyed being with friends the most. We were happy to be chit-chatting with them again after not having been in touch during the holiday. It was a nice feeling knowing that you have friends who give you a very warm welcome. As I’ve always said having true and good friends makes being away from home a little less sad and difficult; after all, “friends are the family we choose”. Too bad we didn’t have all night to stay and chit-chat as it was quite a long drive from my friend’s house to our place. But then again, there’s always a next time.
