Free Wifi in Doha!

Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar), for some months now, has been lobbying for free Wifi Internet access in some of Doha’s park. It called the Internet Parks Initiative or iPark. Yesterday, Doha’s Sheraton Park became the first of the parks to be able to provide people with such. The same free service would also be provided to Rumailah and Duhail al-Hammam parks too.

I hope they also launch an initiative to have the whole of Doha to have free Wifi much like what Google is doing in some US states. I’ve seen some ads by ictQatar months before asking for sponsors for this initiative. Why wouldn’t just Qtel sponsor all of this along with the other parks they have in mind? Might be that Qtel is pissed off since people would just be briniging their laptops on the parks instead of signing up with them. Not really though. On another note, I tested my ADSL speed this morning. I’m paying for a supposed-to-be speed of 512kbps but I’m only getting around 182kpbs download speed and a lesser number for the upload speed.
