Nursery

Our daughter Xianelle started going to nursery last Sunday, the 17th. I woke up at 5 am to prepare the food that she would be bringing for breakfast and lunch. It wasn’t really complicated. I just packed cocktail hotdogs for breakfast and nuggets for lunch, along with some cookies and drinks in tetra packs. Xiane was really excited about going to school, waking her up wasn’t a problem. At 6am my husband dropped us off at Mulberry Bush. At first all the children, (ages between 1 and 4) stay in the playroom downstairs. We were one of the early birds but most don’t arrive until after 7 am. Our friends’ daughter, Princess was also starting on that day. I know that having Princess in the same school has helped Xiane a lot in going to school for the first time and vice-versa. It somehow helps them cope with “separation anxiety”. Some kids who had been going there for almost 2 weeks now are still having trouble whenever they had to part ways with their parents, especially the younger ones. There’s this little girl who is only 2 years old, who spends the whole day crying when she’s not sleeping. We were told that the kid doesn’t eat nor drink while in the nursery but still the parents choose to leave her there. Our hearts melt hearing about it and we just felt so blessed that we were able to care for our children during that tender age.

After an hour or so of waiting for all the children to arrive, they all go upstairs to the classrooms. There are separate rooms for babies, 1-2 year olds, 3 year olds and 4 year old kids. Xiane and Princess were assigned to the Spiders class, the 4 year olds although Xiane is only 3 years and 3 months old; while Princess is only turning 3 tomorrow (22nd). The teacher said that they were too big to be in the lower age group. It was viewing time when we left them. They were so glued to the TV that they didn’t mind us leaving. At home in my friend’s place we kept thinking about our daughters but managed to stay cool, thinking that the school would have called already if something was wrong. True enough, everything went well. We learned from the teacher that did well during the first day. Xiane didn’t shed a tear which was fine. The only problem with her was making her sit. When I asked the teacher how she was, her reply was “she was super active”. When I asked her again if she was talkative, she answered “non-stop”. But when I asked her if it was a problem, she told me not to worry because it is just normal especially during the first day. It was such a relief how their first day went so well. We are hoping that it will stay that way for the rest of their stay at Mulberry Bush.
