Hello Mavis !

this post has been quite interesting to me, as I might move to Qatar for work, and I am considering taking a driving license there. I understood that a full course is 25 days : does that mean 25*1 hour ? something else ? Then, how difficult is it getting the license ? close to american standards, european standards ?

Zeenat,
since you have a US license, I think that this is already good enough to just get a Qatar Driver’s License without undergoing any tests. You better go to the Police stations to inquire but I’m 90% sure that you don’t need to take the test anymore.
If you do need to take the test and the driving lessons, waiting time is really long – at least a month.

Hi Mavis,
I was hoping if you could help me out with some information. I will be moving to doha by the end of the year and would like to get a driving licence.I do have an american driving licence. Am I required to take all the tests or only the road test ? As I am on vacation now in doha , I was looking towards obtaining a licence in the next three weeks , do you think its possible. Moreover I am familiar with automatic and would need classes for manual driving. I heard the waiting period is very long, is that true ? Hope you can help me out. Thank you.

Hi! 3 things you can do to get your driver’s license here in Qatar. First, get a license in Singapore, have it validated here in Qatar, and take an exam right away. Otherwise, to boost your confidence and upping your chances of passing the driving test, I suggest you take a 12 day course after you get your Singapore license validated, then do your test. Lastly, if you don’t want to get a license in Singapore, you can enroll for a full course (25 days) without needing a Singapore License then take the test. Goodluck!
